"Imperfection"

1996, oil on canvas - 30x36"

I acknowledge and accept my imperfect state of being. The painting started out to be something completely different than what it ended up being. When I finished drawing the grid, I realized I made a mistake. The mistake made the original idea impossible to do. I was very angry with myself and wanted to destroy the canvas, but I remembered something my grandmother said many times, "Make the best of it." So looking myself squarely in the eyes, I made the best of it.
